show synopsis

Young orphan Annie dreams of the day she will finally be reunited with the parents who left her years ago. When she is chosen to spend the holidays with billionaire Oliver Warbucks, her life takes an unexpected turn. As Warbucks sets out to help Annie find her family, the scheming Miss Hannigan, Rooster, and Lily devise a plan of their own that could change Annie’s future forever.

Featuring music by Charles Strouse and lyrics by Martin Charnin, Annie includes the beloved songs “Tomorrow,” “Maybe,” “Hard Knock Life,” and “You’re Never Fully Dressed Without a Smile.” Filled with unforgettable characters, humor, heart, and an inspiring message, Annie is a timeless musical about hope, perseverance, and finding family where you least expect it.

Character breakdown

ANNIE
The optimistic and determined young orphan at the center of the story. Annie is confident, caring, courageous, and wise beyond her years. She needs a strong singer and actor who can naturally lead the company.

​

MOLLY
The youngest of the orphans. Molly is sweet, energetic, and often frightened by bad dreams. She looks up to Annie and has many fun comedic moments.

​

PEPPER
One of the tougher orphans. Pepper is feisty, outspoken, competitive, and full of personality. She frequently challenges the other girls but is still an important part of the orphan family.

​

DUFFY
One of the older orphans. Duffy is confident, playful, and energetic. A great role for a strong ensemble performer with plenty of personality.

​

JULY
A sweet, caring, and supportive orphan. July has a softer personality and often looks after the younger girls.

​

TESSIE
A dramatic and emotional orphan known for her signature “Oh my goodness!” Tessie is expressive, lovable, and a great comedic role.

​

KATE
One of the younger orphans. Kate is energetic, playful, and an active member of the orphan ensemble.

​

MISS HANNIGAN*
The outrageous and unhappy matron of the orphanage. She is sarcastic, dramatic, unpredictable, and larger than life. This role requires excellent comedic timing, strong characterization, and a confident singer.

​

OLIVER WARBUCKS*
A wealthy and powerful businessman who welcomes Annie into his home. Although initially serious and intimidating, Annie quickly brings out his warm and caring side. Requires a strong actor and singer with a commanding presence.

​

GRACE FARRELL*
Warbucks’ kind, intelligent, and sophisticated secretary. Grace immediately takes a liking to Annie and becomes an important mother figure in her life. Requires a strong singer and actor with warmth and maturity.

​

ROOSTER HANNIGAN*
Miss Hannigan’s sneaky and charismatic brother. Rooster is a con artist who sees Annie as an opportunity to make money. He is theatrical, clever, and villainous while still being very funny.

​

LILY ST. REGIS*
Rooster’s glamorous and mischievous girlfriend. Lily is flirtatious, energetic, and completely willing to join Rooster’s schemes. A fun character role for a confident singer and actor.

​

BERT HEALY*
The charismatic host of a popular radio program. Bert is polished, enthusiastic, and larger than life. Requires a confident singer with excellent stage presence.

​

PRESIDENT FRANKLIN D. ROOSEVELT*
The President of the United States. Roosevelt is intelligent, commanding, and optimistic. Annie’s positive outlook inspires him and his Cabinet during a difficult time for the country.

​

DRAKE*
The head butler of the Warbucks mansion. Drake is proper, professional, and dedicated to keeping the household running smoothly.

​

MRS. GREER*
A member of the Warbucks household staff. She is proper, polished, and helps welcome Annie into her new surroundings.

​

CECILLE & ANNETTE*
Members of Warbucks’ household staff who help prepare and care for Annie. These are fun featured roles with opportunities for strong character choices.

​

STAR-TO-BE*
A hopeful young performer who arrives in New York City dreaming of becoming a Broadway star. A featured vocalist in “N.Y.C.” who should have a strong voice and confident stage presence.
