More times than enough we forget we are the author of our story. That's right! You ARE the main character. In fact, everyone is the main character of their own story. So, why the constant battle and fear in our minds that we're not talented enough, not thin enough, not "main character" enough. Probably because you're listening to what some side character who's dealing with their own issues said about you. LET IT GO! Belt that high E and Let It GO!
What We're Taught!
As actors, we're taught to please! We look for an audience's applause to tell us that we did a good job. We look for the casting director to give us a little smirk when we hit that big high note. We're even looking for mom and dad to give us the okay after the performance. WHY! Why are we always looking for that validation! Why are we not taught at a young age that it doesn't matter if you nail the note every time, or it doesn't matter what anyone thinks about your performance. It matters what you think. At the end of the day, casting is going to pick who they want based on their vision (out of your control), people are going to comment on your performance no matter what (out of your control), the only thing you can control, is what you think about yourself. And you, as a person and performer, should LOVE that main character who is out their killing it and doing their thing!
Write Your Story With Confidence, You Have The Pen!
Every day is not going to be perfect. In fact, there is a pretty big guarantee that some days will be shitty. What's great is you hold the pen to make the next day, the next page in your story better. It all starts with a strong mindset and that's something that takes time to build up, but I know you can do it. Part of having a strong mindset, is being confident in who you are!
Here are some suggestions to help build up that confidence: - Be YOU. You are so lucky because there is no one else like you on this planet. Don't try to change yourself to be someone else. Walk how YOU want to walk. Talk how YOU want to talk. Move in the way of goodness.
- Although it's hard, try to pay little attention to what others think. This is something I still struggle with from time to time, but I cannot express how freeing it can be when you let go of the care of others opinions.
- Get things done. Sometimes we lose track of our goals. I do a lot, but I am a lazy person at heart. So, I need to push myself often. When you get things done and are accomplishing things off your weekly list, your confidence will boost through the roof!
- Be grateful, practice gratitude. Start training yourself to notice and appreciate the good things, even the small ones, and express gratitude for them. "I am so thankful to be able to afford to buy this coffee today." "I am so thankful to be able to be working on myself and my goals." "I am so grateful to be healthy enough to workout today."
- Dress to impress. When we look good, we feel good! I know throwing on sweatpants is easy and comfy, but sometimes going the extra mile will make you feel like the star you are!
Always remember, you hold the pen, so you can make each day, each story a little brighter, a little better. You ARE the main character in your life! We all are, and we must all respect each other's journey!
How are you going to make today's story a little brighter?
